Winelands surround Paarl, a little town about 50km inland from Cape Town. Paarl was founded in 1717 and is surrounded by the Drakenstein Mountain range and “Paarl Rock“, a massive Granite rock situated in the Berg River Valley.

The name “Paarl” comes from the Afrikaans "Pêrel" meaning “pearl”. This name probably originates from Paarl Rock that gleams like a pearl in the sunlight.

The biggest cellar in the world (KWV) is situated in Paarl. You will also find excellent sherry and port wines in this area. The climate provides the perfect weather for the production of excellent red and white wines.
