The favourable exchange rates make South Africa a shopping paradise for tourists. Cape Town offers a variety of indigenous as well as imported goods. Gold, diamonds, jewellery, leather products, and African clothing, are just some of these goods. Shopping centres are generally open Monday to Saturday, 9am to 5pm, and on Sundays 10am until 2pm.
Apart from the large shopping centres, there are also small souvenir shops in Adderley Street. This area is also well known for its jewellery and fashion shops.
In St. George's Mall you will find a variety of interesting shops. The Mall is only a stone's throw away from Green Market Square where one can visit the flea market daily. Long Street, with its many little shops, has a unique charm and reflects the spirit of Cape Town.
There are numerous fashion shops all along Sea Point's main road all the way to Camps Bay. You will find craft markets in Hout Bay where potters, artists, and sculptors display and sell their goods.
The coastal road along False Bay is littered with small, interesting shops. This area is also known as the "treasure coast". Kalk Bay and Simon's Town are also good shopping venues.
