SHOSHOLOZA
Our national pride!
The Shosholoza is South Africa’s flagship for the America’s Cup 2007. The 25 meter long racing boat with 35 meters high masts combines the newest racing design and shows our national colours with pride.
The entire design of this wonderful boat emphasises the rich African art –reflecting Ndebele, Zulu and Xhosa influences, which symbolises the movement and the flow of water.
Did you know…
… that Reflance, the successful defender of the America’s Cup in 1903 had an active crew of 70 sailors? Today an America’s Cup crew consists of only 17 members.

Large sized sailboats are not built for calm waters!
The America’s Cup is considered as the top sailing event and belongs to the oldest continuous carried out Cup’s in the world. The first race took place in 1851 on a course around the British Isle of Wright. The “ America” won the trophy at the time and thus gave the race its name.
