Monkey Town in Cape Town - South Africa Children's Pages

Monkey Town is a Primate center just outside Somerset West. The aim of the center is to rehabilitate and provide shelter for displaced primates. With their natural habitats decreasing, this center provides much needed help for these monkeys and chimpanzees.

Here you will find more than 25 exotic species roaming freely over and around the covered walk-ways. Species include Lemurs from Madagascar, Old World monkeys from Africa and Asia, New World monkeys from South and Central America, and chimpanzees. Many of the monkeys are rare and endangered and are intriguing to watch! Monkey Town offers a variety of ways to spend your time while visiting. There are guided tours, talks at feeding time and interaction with tame monkeys. For the children, there is a “touching farmyard”, jungle gym and birthday party facilities.

A special programme is offered for schools to increase awareness of the destruction of primate habitats and includes conservation techniques. There are educational displays, group rates and an adopt-a-monkey project. After working up an appetite walking through the center, you can relax and enjoy some refreshments at the restaurant.
