Tahraaaaaaaaaatahraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaathaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa, I am the biggest mammal on earth, the elephant, and weigh about 6000 kg. You probably only weigh about 40 kg. I think I am a bit longer than an average car, about 7m. And my ears!!! I could cover 10 pizzas with them and they help me to stay cool because I use them as a fan. During the rainy season we have a lot of mosquitoes here and I use my ears to scare them away. My wife and I both have big horns and a long trunk and I use this to tear down leaves and get fruit to eat. I can also use my trunk for a concert or to call my relatives. Sometimes another male comes along and wants to steal my wife. Then I make such a noise that he gets scared and runs away.
I can't drink very well with my mouth and my trunk helps me to splash water into my mouth. My trunk is great; it helps me with everything I do. But that is not all. I also use my trunk to investigate many things.
I breathe with my trunk and if a lion is irritating me, I can also box with my trunk. I have almost no natural enemies, except for the lion that gives my family a lot of trouble. But if we all take care of each other then the lion can do nothing to harm us. Lions are very dangerous for my children. I have told them so often to stay with the family but sometimes they do not listen. In Africa the sun shines almost every day and I drink about 200 litres of water in a day!!! With my weight I am constantly hungry so I eat all the time. My faaaaaavourite food is grass but also twigs and fruit. Once a year I feel very funny. In South Africa we have a fruit called "Amarula". They are so tasty and I eat them the whole day. In the evenings they start to ferment in my tummy and then I get very dizzy. I have heard people say that I am drunk. It is probably not that bad but I do feel a bit funny.
When my wife has a baby it takes a whole two years until it is born. During the birth my aunties and sisters help my wife. I hope my children also get as old as my uncle who is now 70 years old.
So, I am getting hungry. If you want to come and visit me, you can find me in the Krüger National Park or the Addo Elephant Park. They are close to Cape Town or Johannesburg. I have heard that there are also a few of my relatives in Knysna. So, tell your mommy and daddy that you want to come to South Africa and say "HI".
Until then!!!
