The National Park has over 1 million visitors each year and the safari camps are fully booked, especially during school holidays (December to mid January and July) so bookings are advisable months in advance.

The best time to visit is mostly in winter as the Kruger Park tends not to be as crowded, and the temperatures are pleasant.

Daytime winter temperatures are around 20 to 25 degrees with cooler evenings around 10 to 15 degrees. Winter also offers the best viewing possibilities as the bushes, shrubs and trees aren't as high and have lost their leaves.

The National Park is situated 380 km or 4 hours' drive southeast of Johannesburg, at an altitude of 200 to 800 meter above sea level and borders Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The biggest city near the Kruger National Park is Nelspruit.

The Park has a north-south expanse of 350 km, an east-west expanse of 60 km and is completely fenced. The landscape is mostly savannah bush with low grasses and scrub vegetation.

The many rivers that crisscross the park are inhabited by hippos and crocodiles and an impressive array of wildlife can be viewed daily at the various waterholes.
