General:
Warthogs belong to the huge family of wild pigs. In contrast to its fellow European relatives, which have furry hair growing all over their bodies, the warthog has only a little hair on the back and on the neck. Although they don't have as much hair as the European pigs, the male warthog has huge tusks that he can show off with pride. The name warthog comes from the warts on their faces. A male has four warts and a female has two.
Eating Habit:
Warthogs are active during the day and spend most of it busy looking for food. They feast on roots and grass and move forward on their knees which looks absolutely hilarious. Most of the time you will find them at water ponds where they enjoy a daily bath in the mud.
Enemies:
In the night the stay in holes originally created by Porcupines or Anteaters. They push themselves back words into these holes so that they can see what is going on outside at night, and to protect themselves from their enemies. Warthogs are strong enough to survive a fight with a hyena or a cheetah, but would be killed by a lion.
Sightings:
National parks: Mkuzi Game Reserve in Natal, Kruger National Park or at the Umfolozi Game Reserve.
