Spotting a pride of Lions is one of the highlights of a Safari tour. It becomes even more special when there are adorable little cubs part of the group.

Lions weigh up to 200 kilograms and reach a speed of 50 kilometres per hour. They are able to jump a distance of 12 metres and usually only kill herbivores.

Usually only female animals hunt – however in spite of their passiveness male lions get the so-called lion’s share of the prey.

When it comes to feeding, lions normally start on the inside with the intestines and work their way out to the meat.

Together with their pups female animals live in small groups within a social structure. Males often roam around their territory either by themselves or in couples and do not show a strong social behaviour.

Lions can be found in the Kgalagdi Transfrontier Park, the Krüger National Park and at the Etosha Pan in Namibia.

Take care when observing lions and do not leave your vehicle. Lions are difficult to spot through the high grass.
