Situated in a malaria free area on South Africa's picturesque Garden Route (Eden), Nyaru Game Lodge nestles between the Outeniqua Mountains and surrounding beaches. It's an approximate 3 hour drive from Cape Town, 30 minutes from the George Airport and 10 minutes off the N2 from Mossel Bay on the R328 to Oudtshoorn.
Nyaru Private Game Reserve and Cheetah Santuary offers visitors a unique safari experience with accommodation, 4 X 4 wildlife safaris, quad bike safaris and nature walks.
4x4 wildlife safaris Guests are treated on a 2 1/2 hour 4x4 game drive to view 17 different species of game and wildlife i.e. cheetah, giraffe, sable, kudu, impala, duiker, bushbuck, zebra, nyala, waterbuck, mountain reedbuck, bontebuck, blue wildebeest, bush pig, ostriches, secretary birds and the famous fish eagles. Nyaru is also home to the rare black impala.
Quad Biking The guided 2 hour quad bike safari offers an exhilarating drive through picturesque fynbos, rocky mountains and scenic valleys. Viewing the amazing African animals from a quad bike is a completely different experience. It offers the daring and young at heart an experience of a lifetime. The quad bikes are not a threat to the animals, allowing one to get particularly close. The guide will always be there to direct guests and keep them at a safe distance. The guides take great care in showing every visitor how to drive the bike. Guided quad biking is safe, a lot of fun and easy enough for anyone to enjoy.
The environment is free of all distractions, leaving one to soak in the peace and tranquillity of the bush. If required guests can be taken on walking trails to have a close experience of the bush, fauna, flora and bird life.
Guided nature walks There is a great need for many tourists visiting Nyaru Private Game Reserve to experience nature on foot. The Nature Walk consists of a 2 hour guided walk through diverse habitats like riverine forest, marsh areas, fynbos and plains. During the walk the guide will point out, identify and explain the medicinal use of some trees. There is also a good chance for the guest to see the Knysna Lourie, Knysna Woodpecker, Narina Trogon and all 5 Kingfisher species resident on the banks of the dam. Here we will also have a look for the troop of Vervet Monkeys. The guide will point out and identify the tracks of animals ranging from the very elusive Honey Badger to the Cape Buffalo. Guests might also be fortunate enough to see various game on foot. We do offer a complemented small picnic lunch.
The Nature Walk will truly enable guest to experience and appreciate nature at an exceptional close level.
Accommodation The central focus of the lodge is the thatched restaurant/lapa area with seating for a maximum of 100 people with a licensed bar, lounge, dining and conference facilities. Traditional cuisine is served at the restaurant. Meals can also be served on the deck area to make it a special affair with a crackling fire under the stars.
Accommodation consists of self-catering or fully catered thatched A-frame chalets with either double or two single beds with shower, toilet and basin. There is no electricity, only fitted gas lamps and candles to create that real rustic bush camp atmosphere.
The accommodation consists of two-bedroom and one-bedroom chalets. Two bedroom family chalet: Can accommodate 5 people sharing and has a main bedroom with a double and single bed and en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin on the ground floor. The upper level has a bedroom with a further two single beds. Each family chalet has its own small lapa with barbeque facilities. One bedroom chalet: Each one-bedroom chalet is equiped with a double and single bed (for infants) and has an en-suite bathroom with shower, toilet and basin.
