Protea Hotel Addo
Protea Hotel Addo, formerly Zuurberg Mountain Inn, is situated 18km outside the Addo Elephant Park in the Eastern Cape, 72km by road from Port Elizabeth. This gracious 150-year old hotel is a peaceful and truly unique mountain top retreat. Dining and leisure facilities at Protea Hotel Addo include a restaurant/breakfast room, serving a full Protea breakfast from 07h30 until 10h00; pub-style or a la carte lunch is available and a full buffet dinner is served from 19h00 until 22h00. The Woodifields Bar and Lounge open from 11h00 until 22h00 and services the pool area, terrace and garden.
Leisure facilities include a swimming pool, 2 all-weather tennis courts, a bowling green, children's playground, pool table, board games, horse and hiking trails. Sunrise and afternoon Game Drives in the Addo National Elephant Park are also available. Other facilities include undercover parking and daily car wash.
Proclaimed in 1931 to save the last survivors of the once numerous Eastern Cape elephants, the park consists of 12 126ha of Bushveld dominated mostly by the Spekboom, Portulacaria afra, which covers approximately 80% of the park area.

Mountain zebra, eland, kudu, bush buck, duiker, red hartebeest and other endemic game of the area can be encountered, as well as prolific birdlife - the Forest Weaver and Knysna Loerie to name a few. Rhino can be viewed at Darlington Dam after a rugged 4 x 4 trail. From indigenous riverine forests to mountain fynbos, the Greater Addo Park, incorporating the Zuurberg mountains, protects some of the last remaining vegetation of the region.
