Guesthouse in Fish Hoek / St James, Cape Town
The guesthouse (circa 1896) is situated on the False Bay coastline in St James, nestling at the foot of the mountain on the edge of the sea.
Opposite the famous tidal pool, and within easy walking distance of the historic Kalk Bay Harbour, Cecil John Rhodes and Natalia Labia Museums, the guesthouse is ideal for whale watching (July - November), swimming, surfing, hiking, shopping (an array of craft and antique shops), fishing and eating out.
Facilities
The guesthouse offers guests both Bed & Breakfast, or a self-catering option. Dinner can be arranged with prior notice. Crisp linen, sea views and private space ensure privacy and comfort.
Guests can be collected at Cape Town International Airport and personalised tours and suggestions will ensure your visit is a special and memorable one.
Off-road parking is available. Car hire can be arranged. Children over the age of 14 are most welcome. Laundry as well as secretarial services are available.
Attractions
No more than 30 minutes from Cape Town International Airport, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, the Stellenbosch Wine Route, Cape Point Nature Reserve, Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and historic Simonstown Naval Base, St James is an ideal base for the business, leisure or adventure tourist.
Accommodation
The guesthouse has two bedrooms, the main bedroom with a lovely sea view. The Victorian bathroom has a traditional ball-and-claw bath as well as a shower. There is a quiet reading room as well as sitting room with TV and CD facilities. Two patios offer views of False Bay and the mountain. The main guest room has crisp cotton linen with super-down pillows and duvet that make this room too comfortable to want to leave.
Location
The train station is alongside the beach and offers convenient trips to Cape Town and Simonstown, half-hourly every day.
From July to November each year, the Southern Right whales come to calve and mate in False Bay. Blen Cathra offers wonderful viewing of these fascinating, gigantic mammals frolicking in the sunshine.
Self-Catering Facilities
The kitchen allows for self-catering holidays. It has a fridge/freezer, convection microwave, hot plate and patio for braaing. The Kalk Bay harbour is a 5 minute walk away and fresh fish is available daily. Snoek and Kabeljou are great favourites to braai (barbeque).
