The Otter trail is situated between Port Elizabeth and Mossel Bay and is about 41 km long.
To complete this hike you will need at least 5 days and good weather. Many hikers are forced to abandon the hike due to bad weather, as it gets too dangerous. Eleven rivers need to be traversed and many other difficult situations present themselves. It is not just a tough hiking trail, you have to use your head whilst on the Otter Trail. Tides have to be taken into consideration so that you can cross the rivers. You will get a timetable of the tides at the beginning of the hike so that you can plan this crucial part of the trail. We recommend that only trained sportspeople do this hike, as it is very tough.
