From 1919 to 1920 he shot 114 Elephants, once he was finished with this culling, only 14 Elephants remained.  After the 1920 massacre, protests broke out and as a result of this, in 1931 the Addo Elephant Park was established.  The remaining 11 Elephants were rounded up and enclosed in the Park, and eventually more land was added to the park to give the animals more roaming space.  Today, the park has expanded to over 90 000 ha.
