The governor of Simon's Town, Simon van der Stel (1679 - 1699) founded the city. This town has become famous for the very popular "Boulders Beach".   There are only two land-based colonies of penguins in the world and the African Jackass penguins find their home on this beach. They nest in the rocky areas or the bushes found around beach.   The SPCA protects the penguins and you need to pay an entrance fee to get to the beach.
