Seal Island
About 5km off Strandfontein in False Bay is a bald piece of land, about 2 ha in extent, named Seal Island. The Island has a population of about 50 000 seals, and also accommodates bank cormorant, penguin and seagull.
Visitors are not allowed to land on the island, but boats from Kalk Bay, Hout Bay and Gordon's Bay harbours make special trips around the island by arrangement.
There is also a high population of Great White Sharks around Seal Island, as the seals prove to be easy and tasty prey for the Sharks, so you might be lucky and see one of these magnificent creatures!

Great White Shark
The best time to see the seals is in the summer months. Details of boat trips to the island can be obtained from teh Harbourmaster at Kalk Bay, Hout Bay and Gordon's Bay.
