Once the most attractive seaside resort in the Western Cape, Muizenberg has not lost all its charm and the city council is working on reinventing it. Many of the historical buildings situated in Muizenberg are being renovated at the moment, and it is hoped that this process will be finished within the next four years so that Muizenberg will once again become an upmarket destination. The beaches in Muizenberg are long and beautiful. Children can enjoy the warm seawater and a small water park for children and youths is within walking distance of the beach. In Muizenberg you will find “Rhodes’ Cottage”, the holiday house of Sir Cecil John Rhodes. He spent the last few years of his life in this cottage although Rhodes’ final resting place is in Zimbabwe in the Matoba Hills. The Zandvlei Nature Reserve lies on the northern side of Muizenberg. For many sailors this is a good launching area. Many bird species breed in this nature reserve and South Africans often enjoy relaxing here as there are few places where it is permitted to braai. Bathing in Muizenberg is only safe in certain areas. Please get safety information from the information centre or from your host as to where bathing is safe. Currents pose a definite threat in this area and the warm water comes from the Indian Ocean. From Cape Town, you will reach Muizenberg in about 20 minutes and there are various ways to get there. A train connection between Cape Town and Muizenberg exists although it is advisable to take your own car. Attractions:
