Taking a stroll through the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town, one comes across numerous street entertainers such as magicians, jazz saxophonists, fire jugglers etc. These artists come from all over Africa and offer a wide range of entertainment. On the morning of the 2nd of January each year, the end of the Cape Minstrel's Carnival is celebrated by a procession through the streets of Cape Town. Thousands of "Cape Coons", as locals commonly know them, start to sing, dance and play their drums and banjos.
This is similar to a carnival type procession in Rio. Their multicoloured costumes glitter in the sun outside Green point stadium. The coons sing in the local dialect that is known as "Kaapse Taal" (cape language) and can only be understood by those who have been in Cape Town for quite a while. Walking around in the V&A Waterfront, you will find the Agfa Amphitheatre, a sunken stage that has been host to variety of performances. These include plays from Shakespeare to musical concerts and even limbo dancers.
