       Cape Town Events | Annual Events and Festivals in Cape Town

 

Please see below for a list of the most interesting festivals in the Cape.

 

January

 

  • Cape Minstrel Carnival: Cape Town. The colourful carnival procession annually moves through the city of Cape Town to Green Point Stadium on the 2nd of January.
  • Cape to Rio Regatta: Start in Cape Town. Every two years approximately 100 yachts sail from Cape Town to Rio de Janeiro. 
  • Maynardville Open-air Theatre: Cape Town. Shakespeare productions are enacted in January and February in the Maynardville (Wynberg) City Park. 
  • Nedbank Summer Concert Season: Cape Town. From November to February open-air summer concerts are held at the Josephine Mill in Newlands. 
  • Oude Libertas Arts Programme: Stellenbosch. From January to March theatre productions and summer concerts are held in the private amphitheatre.  
  • Summer Sunset Concerts: Cape Town. From January to March Sunday evening concerts are held at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens. 
  • Paarl Show: Paarl. A fair held in the mid-February with arts & crafts, wine and great company.

 

March

 

  • Argus Cycle Tour: Cape Peninsula. The largest road cycle race in the world takes place mid March. 
  • Beer and Bread Festival: Caledon. One of the most famous harvest festivals in the Cape region. Takes place in Caledon in the beginning of March. 
  • Oude Libertas Arts Programme: Stellenbosch. From January to March theatre productions and summer concerts are held in the private amphitheatre.  
  • Summer Sunset Concerts: Cape Town. From January to March Sunday evening concerts are held at Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens.

 

April

 

  • Nouveau Wine Festival: Paarl. A celebration of the new wine harvest with plenty of music and arts & crafts taking place on the first weekend in April. 
  • Two Oceans Marathon: Cape Town. A marathon around the Cape Peninsula (starts and ends in the city center) taking place over the Easter Weekend.

 

July

 

  • Control Instruments Berg: Paarl. A canoe race with a distance of over 270km on high-water levels from Paarl to Veldrift on the West Coast.
  • Bastille Festival: Franschhoek. A fun festival held in Franschhoek during the first two weeks of July with ample wine, food, arts & crafts and sports events.

 

August

 

  • Arts Festival Evita se Perron: Darling. South Africa’s most famous drag artist performs concerts and cabarets. 
  • Food and Wine Festival: Malmesbury. A food and wine festival held on the first weekend in August with local grain and wine products. 
  • Wildflower Festivals: Northern Cape. For a few days in August and September one can view the spectacular wild flowers in bloom.

 

September

 

  • Arts Festival Evita se Perron: Darling. South Africa’s most famous drag artist performs concerts and cabarets. 
  • Whale of a Festival: Hermanus. A festival with street markets and theatre productions centered on the arrival of the Southern Right Whales in Walker Bay. 
  • Wildflower Festivals: Northern Cape. For a few days in August and September one can view the spectacular wild flowers in bloom.

 

October

 

  • Van der Stel Festival: Lambert’s Bay. Historical market started by “van der Stel”. 
  • Tulbagh Festival: Tulbagh. Takes place on the last weekend in October and has many products and arts & crafts from that region.

 

November

 

  • Crayfish Festival: Lambert’s Bay. A crayfish festival held mid-November in Lambert’s Bay. Lots of music, dancing and wine. 
  • Nedbank Summer Concert Season: Cape Town. From November to February open-air summer concerts are held at the Josephine Mill in Newlands

 

December

 

  • Nedbank Summer Concert Season: Cape Town. From November to February open-air summer concerts are held at the Josephine Mill in Newlands
